Ivory Coast star Yaya Toure has been crowned the 2014 African Player of the Year for an unprecedented fourth time in a row.

The 31-year-old eased passed Gabon striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang [in second place] to clinch the historic gong at a colourful ceremony held in Lagos on Thursday.

Toure gathered 175 points – 55 more than Aubameyang- from the 53 national team coaches and technical directors on the African continent to win the award in landslide victory.

Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama came third with 105 points.

Toure who plays his club football with English giants Manchester City now becomes the most decorated player in the history of the CAF awards – overtaking Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o who remains on three.

Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan who failed to make the final three-man shortlist for the award’s ceremony is ranked fourth with 94 points while Nigeria’s Ahmed Musah is fifth with 78 points.
