Portugal national team manager Fernando Santos previewed the friendly against Nigeria at Wednesday’s press conference, where he touched on the key qualities of the Super Eagles players.
Santos underlined that two of the biggest attributes of the Nigerian players are speed and being talented.
Brght Osayi-Samuel, Ademola Lookman, Emmanuel Dennis, Terem Moffi and Moses Simon, who are all in contention to face Portugal, possess pace that unsettles opposition defenders.
Their versatility is also a bonus for the Super Eagles as they can be deployed on the wings and as out-and-out strikers.
Santos speculated that he expects his friend Jose Peseiro to use a 4-4-2 formation in this evening’s friendly.
“In relation to the African continent, like Ghana, there is this matrix too. Nigeria has something to do with Ghana,” Santos told reporters.
“They have very fast players, they exploit speed. They are very talented. I don’t know how Nigeria will be on the field, but they usually play in 4-4-2 and Ghana often in 4-3-3.
“José Peseiro also showed a lot of interest in playing this game in Portugal. It was a good choice.”
The friendly game between Portugal and Nigeria is scheduled to start at 1945 hours at Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon.
