Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has returned to Malabo to join the Black Stars team but remains a major doubt for Thursday’s 2015 AFCON semi final clash against Equatorial Guinea, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The Al Ain ace was flown back from Mongomo on Tuesday afternoon having undergone further medical examinations on a suspected groin injury.

Ghana’s medical team are yet to release a statement through the Ghana FA’s media channel on the health status of the prolific striker.

The results of the MRI scan of the striker also remains concealed.

Gyan did not train with the side in their second training session ahead of the semi final game against the tournament hosts.

The Black Stars captain is racing against time to regain full fitness for the match having suffered from a deliberate lunge from goalkeeper Naby Yattara in the 3-0 win over Guinea in the quarter finals.

Yattara was rightly sent off but there are calls for stiffer punishment for the Arles Avignon goalkeeper.

Gyan remained in Ghana’s Sofitel President Hotel as the rest of his teammates trained on Tuesday evening in Lapaz.

Ghana coach Avram Grant confirmed the uncertainty surrounding the involvement of Asamoah Gyan in Thursday’s game.

“I am not [sure if Asamoah Gyan will play] because we are now checking him,” Grant told the media.

“Doing all the medical treatment that we need to do for him to make him ready for Thursday.”
