On Friday evening Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan demonstrated to the whole world why he is among the most lethal and prolific predators in this era’s football.

The 29-year-old struck a last-gasp winner for Ghana’s Black Stars as they claimed a narrow but important victory over Algeria’s Desert Foxes in Mongomo.

For the former Udinese and Sunderland striker, it was yet another huge statement about his form and how he is increasingly soaring his indispensability.

Gyan’s goal, in the 92nd minute, ensured Ghana remained in competition for a place in the quarter-finals. That goal is fast becoming one of his memorable goals in Ghana colours and his named has claimed Twitter trends since the minute that ball eluded Philadelphia Union keeper Raïs M’Bolhi Ouhab.

The strike has fast joined the list of Gyan’s Ghana-saviour goals and we ask you which of them is your best moment?

June 26, 2010

Asamoah Gyan scored the winner in the 93rd minute after Landon Donovan’s penalty had cancelled out Kevin Prince Boateng’s early opener. Probably this statement translated into action was Africa’s biggest moment at the 2010 edition of the World Cup. It was a goal initiated by Andre Ayew who spun a long ball with the outside of his left foot into the path of Gyan. He held off two defenders, hassling and buzzing  and smashed the ball past Howard for his third goal of the tournament.

March 29, 2011

On the day the Black Stars played against England’s Three Lions squad at the first time in history, it was Gyan who stole the show with a brilliant strike. Gyan controlled a pass to the right of the D, not in a particularly dangerous-looking position, with his back to Lescott. He beat him once with a couple of deft touches but still couldn’t get a look at goal so he had to beat him a second time, cutting into the box with a superb improvised between-the-legs turn that left his marker on the floor. Then he bent a perfect finish past Hart into the far corner. Oh! That was in the 91st minute too.

Gyan struck a dramatic late winner to keep alive his side’s hopes of reaching the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals. Gyan ran on to a long ball over the top by substitute Mubarak Wakaso and sent a scruffy shot into the bottom left corner. The Al Ain man had 1% chance of that chance but he still pushed through to outmuscle his marker and score.

  1. To me he is a legend already…i don’t care what anybody says.

  2. My criteria for ranking these goals is based primarily on the type of competition Gyan scored in and the difficulty of scoring. The USA goal is number 1 because it was at the world cup with the whole world watching. Plus it was in the knock out stage and in extra time. Gyan held off the USA defender and rifled home an unstoppable shot with his weaker left foot against Tim Howard.

Second is the goal against Algeria and third is the one against England. Gyan is a living legend!

  3. Remember the equaliser he scored against Turkey in one friendly match of the last ball thrown to him by the goalkeeper (Razak B.) He saved Ghana yet again with a 2:2 scoreline. Love him or hate him, he has done so much for mother Ghana
