Ultimate Cup Kicks Off Today in Kaduna

The Ultimate Cup began in Kaduna Wednesday with former Super Eagles coach Adegboye Onigbinde saluting the organisers for taking up the gauntlet to ensure the country’s football is given the expected lift.

In the opening two matches on Wednesday, Mutunchi Academy of Kaduna thrashed Precious FC 7-0, Unity Academy pipped Welcome Times of Kano 1-0 and Clique drew 1-1 with Aberdeen.

In the meantime, Onigbinde, who has accepted to head the technical study committee of the First Annual Football Summit in Kaduna, has said Strive Sports Management , SSM, based in the United Kingdom and New Age Sports Africa deserve commendation for seeking to improve grassroot football as well as boosting capacity of soccer academies in the country.

“I’ve accepted to honour the invitation to the event because of my interest in the development of football in the country,” said the former CAF/FIFA technical study group member.

“I will always assist in whatever capacity I am needed. The organisers are  very respectful and want the best for Nigeria football, this is my source of joy.”

He said he believes the future of football belongs to the upcoming players, hence they should be guided well at all times to realize their dreams and improve on their skills, stressing that “activities like this is what we need to keep the growth of football aglow and discover new talents.”

Meanwhile the UK and Spain contingents have arrived Kaduna for the Ultimate Youth Cup, which kicks off officially on Thursday.

Bina Williams Ajuwa, who led the Spanish scouting team said they are interested in contributing to upgrading of Nigeria football academies technical output and administrative structure, promising that the tournament  is of International standard.
