UEL: Francis Uzoho was Outstanding against United- Omonia Nicosia Head Coach

Omonia Nicosia’s gaffer Neil Lennon has praised Nigeria International goalie, Francis Uzoho, after his heroics in their Europa League defeat to Manchester United.

Uzoho kept United at bay for most of the game under the flood lights of Old Trafford as he saved 11 from the 12 shots he faced.

Substitute Scot McTominay was the hero on the night for the Reds as he scored the crucial goal in 3 minutes of additional time after the full 90.

Despite the outcome, Neil Lennon was impressed with his team, especially his goalie between the sticks, Francis Uzoho.

Lennon said: “Very proud of the team. The man to the left of me [goalkeeper Francis Uzoho] was outstanding. He was inspiring. When you play a team of this calibre you need your goalkeeper to play well and he was world-class. I was so happy for him.

“We were a few minutes away from one of the greatest results in this club’s history. There are so many things I’m happy with but there are a few sides of the game we could have done better. Overall we were feeding off scraps.

“I’m disappointed with our ball retention at times but I’m so proud of the way they defended the box.”

Francis Uzoho had previously been under serious scrutiny following his performances against Ghana in a World Cup Qualifier and most recently against Algeria in an International friendly.

The Nigerian has however used his performance under the flood lights of Old Trafford to give Nigerians hope that there’s still a class goalkeeper in Uzoho.
