UEL: Barren night for Nigerians in Europe’s second-tier competition

The UEFA Europa League entered its 3rd matchday on Thursday but it wasn’t too good outing for Nigerians as none of them found the back of the net, Nigeriasoccernet.com can report.

Bright Osayi-Samuel in his 72 minutes appearance for Fenerbahce got into the referee’s caution book as his team defeated Victor Olatunji’s AEK Larnaca 2-0. Olatunji played only the final 21 minutes of the game.

Victor Boniface was a menace to Sporting Braga defense for the whole of 90 minutes as his Union Saint-Gilloise secured a 2-1 win in Portugal over their host Sporting Braga.

Moses Simon played for 69 minutes as FC Nantes journey in Europe get shaky following a 2-0 loss to SC Freiburg in Germany.

Ibrahim Akanbi and Iyayi Believe Atiemwen both started for FC Sheriff in their 2-0 home defeat to Sadiq Umar’s Real Sociedad. With the former playing the entire duration, the latter got a yellow card during his 66 minutes on the pitch.

Francis Uzoho watched Omonia Nicosia entertaining 2-3 defeat at home to Manchester United on the bench.

Anderson Esiti was an unused sub as Ferencvaros stumbled 4-1 to Crevna Zvezda.
