The UEFA Europa Conference League is one league that Nigerians has thrived in going by their records in the maiden edition held last season.
And just like the first edition, Nigerians have started on a high again as the matchday one kicked off yesterday.
Samuel Chukwueze scored Villarreal’s opening goal of the campaign as they fought hard to beat Lech Poznan 4-3. The Super Eagles Winger also registered an assist to his name in the process.
Franklin Sasere came off the bench in the second half as his FC Vaduz played a goalless draw against Ezekiel Henty’s Apollon Limassol. Ezekiel Henty started the game for Limassol but was sub off in the 87th minute.
Ahmed Musa and Leke James both featured for sivasspor as they played a 1 all draw with Olayinka’s Slavia Prague.
While Leke James started and was subbed off due to injury for Sivasspor, Ahmed Musa was introduced in the 73rd minutes.
Peter Olayinka on the other hand scored Slavia Prague’s goal of the game. Moses Usor also started the game for Slavia Prague but was taken off in the 63rd minute.
Uche Agbo in excellent display for Slovan Bratislava in their goaless draw against Mathias Oyewusi’s Zalgiris Vilnius.
Both players started for their respective clubs but Oyewusi was subbed off in the 87th minute as Uche Agbo played the entire duration.
Meanwhile Uche Agbo’s country and club mate Ibrahim Rabiu was on Slovan Bratislava’s bench for the entire duration.
Yusuf Otubanjo was subbed off in the 65th minutes as his Pyunik suffered a 3-1 away loss to FC Basel.
Ishaq Abdulrazak was an unused sub as Anderlecht pip Silkeborg by a lone goal in Belgium.
Interesting match day one for our players in the Conference League and aside Yira Sor who was not with Slavia Prague in Turkey for reasons not yet known as at the time of filling this report, remaining 12 of the 13 Nigeria players projected by the Nigeriasoccernet.com to be part of the UEFA Europa Conference League all appeared for their teams either as a starter, substitute or on the bench as the Conference League officially kickoff.
