“?Tobi Schweinsteiger, brother of Manchester United midfielder Bastian, had a strong message for the Old Trafford club on Monday evening about the treatment of his younger sibling following revelations that the German World Cup winner had been relegated to the second string.
Schweinsteiger is being pushed towards the exit door at United just one year after signing from Bayern Munich having being deemed surplus to requirements by new manager Jose Mourinho.
And 34-year-old Tobi, a former footballer in his own right and now a youth coach at Bayern, hasn’t take his brother’s unceremonious demotion well, slamming United for a lack of respect for a player who is one of the most decorated individuals of the last 20 years.
no respect
Taking to Twitter, Tobi simply said, “no respect”. No context was offered, although given the events and news of the day beforehand it could easily be inferred.
Bastian, who celebrated his 32nd birthday the day he learned his United fate, was a high profile signing by former boss Louis van Gaal last summer. The eight-time Bundesliga champion arrived to great fanfare and excitement but ultimately struggled with injuries and fitness.
Despite showing occasional flashes of the brilliance that have characterised his career, Schweinsteiger was limited to just 13 Premier League starts and didn’t play at all in the final two months of the season as a result of a recurrence of a knee injury.
He was later named as German team captain for Euro 2016 after receiving the full backing of head coach Joachim Low and started the quarter-final and semi-final ties against Italy and France respectively having only featured as a substitute a earlier stages.
