It has been the image of the last few days: A Hungarian cameraman dragging a Syrian refugee to the ground who was trying to flee from the police with his son following in the footsteps of the many escaping the conflict in Syria.
The video went viral in minutes and the employee was fired from his job in the media, then apologized for his “deplorable actions”.
With time more details have emerged and a sporting tangent has been discovered: the man who was kicked on camera is Osama Abdul Mohsen, resident of Deir Ezzor city where he worked as a football manager before disaster consumed his homeland. After one and a half years of living in destitute conditions, he decided to come in search of a better life in Europe.
Osama was manager of Al-Fotuwa SC, a premier-division side. A team that won the league twice, been runner-up five times and that has won the cup four times.
