Swansea Appoint Chelsea and Real Madrid Legend Claude Makelele as New Assistant Coach

“?Premier League strugglers Swansea City have officially confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that former Chelsea and Real Madrid star Claude Makelele has joined the club’s coaching staff.

Makelele, who quite literally had a footballing position named after him, added to the ranks as an assistant coach, and will work alongside new manager Paul Clement and his fellow new recruits Nigel Gibbs and Karl Halabi, as well as goalkeeping coach Tony Roberts.

The now 43-year-old spent his best years at Santiago Bernabeu and Stamford Bridge, winning a whole host of honours before returning to France with Paris Saint-Germain in 2008. He retired in 2011, and has since worked alongside Clement while playing for Chelsea and as a coach with PSG, while the club were managed by Carlo Ancelotti. 


The former French international has managed himself too – spending just under six months in charge of Bastia before taking up a technical director role with Monaco.
