Carney Chukwuemeka is the only Nigeria-eligible player named in Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League squad.
The 2022 European U19 champion joined Chelsea on a six-year deal in August 2022, ending his association with Aston Villa in the process.
Following the close of the summer transfer window, Chelsea have submitted their Champions League squad list to UEFA.
According to the official website of UEFA, Chukwuemeka has been registered for the Champions League.
The Chelsea roster contains three goalkeepers, eight defenders, ten midfielders and three strikers.
Chukwuemeka is among the seven new signings picked by manager Thomas Tuchel, the others being Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana, Denis Zakaria and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Anglo-Nigerian will be hoping to make his European debut in one of the group stage matches against Dinamo Zagreb, Salzburg and AC Milan.
Since joining Chelsea, Chukwuemeka has received two first team call-ups but was not utilized off the bench.
Academy players of Nigerian descent Prince Adegoke, Somto Boniface, Derrick Abu, Louis Flower, Tudor Mendel-Idowu, Richard Olise and Chinonso Chibueze were left out of Chelsea’s Champions League squad list.
