“?Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has provided the latest on Toby Alderweireld’s injury suffered in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Sunday as well as the progress of Erik Lamela, who has been absent for the past three months.

The Belgian strolled off the pitch in the 65th minute at the Etihad before Son Heung-Min’s 77th minute equaliser took a point from City, who initially had a 2-0 lead over the visitors.

“He felt tight in his hamstring but I don’t believe it’s a big issue,”? “?said Pochettino after the game at the Etihad Stadium. “We’ll know better in a few days but it doesn’t look bad.”?

The Argentine will hope that this initial diagnosis is right as the London club are already missing Alderweireld’s centre-back partner, Jan Vertonghen, who may be out for up to six weeks with an ankle injury.

The news wasn’t as good for Pochettino’s compatriot Lamela, whose return date is a lot more uncertain, but the Spurs boss remains hopeful nonetheless.

“The result was the same so now it’s about how he adapts his programme,” said Mauricio.

“Now he’ll start to run. It’s positive, now it’s about building his fitness and to try to challenge the pain he feels in his hip, but I think this will be positive.”?

Spurs will be hopeful that they can continue their good form next week when they take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light; a team whose survival hopes took another dent with a 2-0 loss to West Brom on Saturday.

The club have coped well this season despite spending a long period of time without the likes of Harry Kane, Moussa Dembele and Alderweireld already this season.

Tottenham currently sit second in the Premier League within touching distance of league leaders Chelsea, who they beat 2-0 a few weeks ago thanks to two Dele Alli headers.
