The Sports Minister’s Reform Committee will not alter the structure of football in Nigeria but propose a private sector model for Sports development according to member Segun Odegbami.
Minister Dalung inaugurated the committee, Thursday with Mr Godwin Kienka as Chairman as well as several top retired sports men and administrators.
Odegbami believes the initiative will ease Government of some responsibilities although the it should still bear “a substantial part of the cost of sports development” as contained in the constitution; Child Right Act.
The former International argued that private participation will only come in terms of elite event sponsorship.
Other individuals in the committee include:
Mr Fatai Williams, Col Sam Ahmedu (RTD), Mr Yusuf Datti , Mr Kayode Thomas and Mrs Mary Onyali MFR.
As well as: Mr Ayo Ojubato, De Bola Orodele, the Technical Assistant to the Hon Minister, the Director, Grassroots Sports Dr Aare, and the Director Planning, Monitoring and Implementation, Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The Committee which has volunteered to work without pay from the Ministry of Youth and Sports is to also design a new architecture for sports development, identity major obstacles impeding sports growth and fashion out a sustainable framework for talent discovery and development. It has 90 days ( July 14th) to submit its report on the reforms as per Nneka Ikem, Media Officer to the Minister.
