Head Coach of the Leone Stars, John Keister says his players can be proud of their performance despite the defeat to Nigeria.
Sierra Leone fell to a 2-1 defeat to the Super Eagles in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiying fixture at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Thursday night.
The Leone Stars started the game on the strong foot with Jonathan Morsay putting them ahead with a great header in the 11th minute connecting with a brilliant cross from John Musa Kamara.
Alex Iwobi equalised for the Super Eagles in the 5 minutes after Morsay’s goal as he was set up by Nantes forward Moses Simon.
Simon was the provider again as he teed up Victor Osimhen for the winning goal four minutes before the break.
“We were disappointed not to get something out the game. We came here with a positive feeling. We felt we could go back home with a positive result,” Keister told a post-match press conference on Thursday night.
“We have a lot of young players in the team and it reflected in our performance. They took their eyes off the ball and allowed Victor Osimhen to score the second goal.
“In the end, the experience on both sides reflected in the final result. We could have another goal too.”
“It was a performance we can be proud of.”
Sierra Leone will be looking to get all three points against Guinea-Bissau on Monday but it’s going to be very difficult as Guinea-Bissau have shown to be very brutal after destroying Sao Tome and Principe 5-1.
