The costly mistakes made by the Super Eagles goalkeepers in recent times has led to calls for a total overhauling of the department by football loving Nigerians but all that seems to be ending as the goalkeeper trainer, a former Nigerian international has assured the country of an improved performances henceforth, Nigeriasoccernet.com gathered.
The costly and constant blunders committed by the goalkeepers has dealth a huge blow on the ambition of the team and many has called for a look into the local league as the search for the new Vincent Enyeama continues.
Speaking on the situation on ground, former Super Eagles goalkeeper and the current goalkeepers trainer, Ike has promised that the blunders noticed in the current goalkeeping department will soon end, saying the coaches are working hard to steady the department.
Reacting to the error made by Francis Uzoho in the recent international friendly against Algeria, Shorunmu told The Guardian that although the mistake is painful, it is not enough to write off the entire department.
“Nobody wants to be part of failure, so, I believe Uzoho was not happy it happened. On our part as the coaching crew, we are engaged in underground work at the moment. When it manifests, Nigerians will be proud of us. Things will happen gradually.”
He said the coaches have beamed their searchlight on the domestic league for quality goalkeepers, who will be invited for screening, adding, “the new NFF board will also help the coaching crew with positive guidelines to follow in revamping the team.”
Francis Uzoho was among the players singled out for Super Eagles failure to qualify for Qatar while Watford’s goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was heavily criticised in Nigeria’s second round loss to Tunisia during the 2021 AFCON played earlier this year in Cameroon.
