“?Serie A side Sampdoria are looking to bolster their midfield for next season by bringing in Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva, according to “?Football Italia.

The Italian side are looking to add more to their midfield after losing Roberto Soriano to Villarreal, and are reportedly looking towards Lucas, whose future at Anfield has been in doubt for some time.

Sampdoria are also thought to be looking at signing Udinese’s Bruno Fernandes and Chievo’s Lucas Castro, should a deal for Leiva fall through.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has been looking to free up some space in midfield considering he already has Adam Lallana, Jordan Henderson, Emre Can, Giorginio Wijnaldum and Marko Grujic in his squad.

Klopp has already set about doing this by selling Welsh midfielder Joe Allen to Stoke City for a fee of £13m.

Reports have suggested that the Italian side have already contacted Lucas’ agent over a potential move away from Anfield, however, it is understood that wages have prevented any progress in the move. Turkish side Galatasaray are also thought to be interested in signing the Brazilian.

Lucas joined Liverpool back in 2007 from Brazilian side Gremio as a defensive midfielder, and has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the Reds in his nine years at the club, scoring six goals, along with having the distinction of being the first ever Brazilian to score for the Anfield side. He has also made 24 appearances for the Brazil national team.

He made 38 appearances for the Reds in all competitions last season, including performing as a makeshift centre-back in the midst of defensive injuries.
