Salisu Yusuf reflects on Nasarawa United’s loss to Kwara United

Nasarawa United head coach, Salisu Yusuf, has admitted that his team’s narrow defeat to Kwara United in Ilorin was largely self-inflicted, Nigeriasoccernet.com can report.

Despite the loss, Yusuf expressed pride in his players’ performance, noting that this was his first defeat since taking charge of the Solid Miners.

Speaking to the club’s media team, Yusuf analyzed the game, stating:

“We played well and handled their strengths effectively, but we lost focus at a crucial moment.”

He pinpointed a costly mistake in midfield as the turning point of the match:

“The goal came from our own mistake when we lost possession in the middle of the field. It required intelligence and composure to react properly in that situation, but unfortunately, our defender’s attempt to clear the ball led to the goal.”

Despite the setback, Yusuf commended his team’s overall display:

“The boys played well and gave the opponents a tough match. We should have won this game.”

The former Super Eagles coach remains optimistic about the team’s future, emphasizing his commitment to improving the squad:

“This is my first defeat since taking charge of the team. I’ve been working with the available players to navigate the remaining games, and I see great potential in them.”

Yusuf believes the loss is a learning opportunity and is now turning his attention to their upcoming home fixtures:

“We are choosing to focus on the positives from this game. This is an opportunity to regroup and come back stronger in our next two home fixtures.”

Nasarawa United will now look to bounce back as they prepare for their crucial home matches, aiming to climb the NPFL standings.
