Plateau State Referees Council has conducted an interactive session with players and coaches of Plateau United Football Club of Jos last week to prepare them for the 2021/22 Nigerian Professional League (NPFL) season, which started across the country at the weekend.
According to Plateau United’s Media Officer, Albert Dakup, the council’s training officer, Austin Eyerole, said the essence of the interactive session was to acquaint the players on the new rules of the game before the kickoff of the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional League (NPFL).
Eyerole was accompanied by the council’s secretary, Eunice Amallam, who explained that the interactive session became germane in order to brief the players on what to expect from referees in the new season.
“Players need to guard against unnecessary infringements, which may result in denying the team victory in crucial matches.”
Affirming that discipline is the foundation of success, he added that any team that intends to do well in the session must guard against getting into the referees’ bad book to achieve its ambition.
The training officer said ignorance is not an excuse as the referees will apply the rule of the game in all situations, advising the players to avoid any situation that will see them questioning the arbiter’s decision.
Technical Adviser, Fidelis IIechukwu, who was impressed with the session, expressed gratitude to the Plateau Referees’ Council for briefing the players on the new rules of the game, assuring that his team will respect the rules as they compete favourably with other teams.
IIechukwu assured that Plateau United is battle ready for the league, while appealing to all stakeholders in the state to support the team.
The interactive session touched on offside rules, yellow card, time wasting, accidental handball and other issues. The players and their officials were later allowed to ask questions on any confusing issue.
