Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale ran riot in Dortmund as Real Madrid join Spurs as top of Group H. Zinedine Zidane was proud of his side’s 3-1 victory over Dortmund after the club secured a first ever win at the Westfalen.
Raphael Varane has become the latest player to commit his long-term future to Real Madrid, agreeing a new contract until 2022.
Varane, 24, joined from Lens in 2011 and has won 13 trophies including three Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles.
The central defender has occasionally been linked with a move, with Manchester United reported to have an interest in the summer, but has become a regular starter alongside Sergio Ramos under coach Zinedine Zidane.
A club statement said: “Real Madrid and Varane have agreed to extend the player’s contract, which will see him remain at the club until June 30, 2022.”

France international Varane’s previous contract at the Bernabeu had been due to expire in 2020.
Teammates Karim Benzema, Marcelo, Isco, Dani Carvajal and Marcos Llorente have put pen to paper on extended deals in recent weeks, while coach Zidane also confirmed that he had agreed new terms.
Cristiano Ronaldo said on Tuesday that a potential new contract for him was a question for Madrid president Florentino Perez.
Perez recently said Ronaldo, 32, had agreed a new deal only last autumn and that his tax issues had not altered the club’s thinking.
