Ghana Premier League Board chairman Welbeck Abra Appiah insists only lazy coaches are unable to find any quality in the division.

Abra Appiah’s comments comes in the wake of a damning verdict passed by the agent of Black Stars coach Saif Rubie over the lack of quality players in the Ghanaian top flight.

Rubie was speaking in defence of why his client prefers to spend most of his time abroad under the guise of scouting players rather than identifying talents from the local scene.

And while some have offered support to the damning verdict of Saif Rubie on the Ghana league as the reason why the Black Stars is dominated by foreign-based players, the chairman of the PLB says the comments are defeatist stance of lazy coaches.

‘There is a proverb in Ghana that says it’s only a poor teacher, an unproductive teacher, a lazy teacher who goes about complaining about his tools,” he said.

“At the point when he came in, I don’t think our league was different from what it is now.

“It is only an unproductive and lazy coach who would say he doesn’t see any quality in the Ghana league.

“Is this why the coach doesn’t stay in Ghana?

“I don’t want to believe that the comments made by the agent is shared by the coach otherwise I will consider him a lazy coach.”

No outfield player who plies his trade in Ghana has been able to break into the Black Stars team in recent times.

The best representative the local league has got in the national team has been the call ups of goalkeepers with the latest beneficiary being Wa All Stars’ Richard Ofori.

  1. PLB should stop this ranting and face the reality. The truth is bitter and stakeholders of the local league are behaving like the proverbial ostrich pretending all is well with our local league whereas the league is nothing to write home about. No coach worth his salt will leave his best players and go for second rated players in the name of protecting a product like our local league which for now is an apology. A good wine sells itself without puffery. The PLB guys should get their acts together and stop looking for a scapegoat in Abram Grant. Let this destructive agenda against Avram cease for it will take us nowhere and let’s stop this proverbial pull him down syndrome that pervades our society like a festering cancer. LEAVE AVRAM GRANT TO DO WHAT HE KNOWS BEST. I challenge you to mention one local player who can walk into the current Black Stars and get a shirt deseverdly. Enough is enough
