Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu could not have the last laugh as his goal could not secure a first Premier League win in two months on Wednesday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Onuachu scored first before Crystal Palace equalled the score to end the tie 1-1 at St Mary’s Stadium.
Onuachu who returned to the starting lineup following his goal in defeat against Wolves before the international break got the goal on 20 minutes.
The Nigerian striker met Fernandes’ deep cross with a powerful header that Dean Henderson could only palm into the bottom corner, when the England goalkeeper might have done better.
However, substitute Matheus Franca headed a stoppage-time equaliser to add to Southampton’s woes.
Southampton remains bottom of the table, now with 10 points, and is 19 points adrift of safety with eight games left while Palace sit 12th, three points above Manchester United.
