Ahead of their clash with Columbia this Wednesday, Nigeria female U-17 Coach, Bankole Olowookere is upbeat of his girls’ chances to upset the applecart in the semi final of the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup.
The Nigeria team head into the last four with an historic win over the US and will need to go pass another hurdle in Columbia to continue their record breaking run in India by reaching the final.
Coach of the side, Olowookere disclosed in a pre match interview that his lads are ready for the contest on Wednesday.
“We are fully prepared, even right from the day we got the ticket for the semifinal we started preparation. First of all, we start the game of the mind.
“We have put the past wins behind us and are looking to beat the Columbians, we want to be in the final. Just like I said operation America must go down, Nigeria must move forward the same way with the Columbians because you can’t get to the finals if you don’t beat the Columbians. You can’t get the trophy if you don’t beat the Columbians so we are putting every effort to make sure millions of Nigeria have hope of winning the trophy.” Olowookere said.
The Coach also spoke on the team’s missing chances in matches, one issue Nigerians have talked alot about.
“For the chances, they might miss chances because I have said this is a developmental programme even from FIFA and the NFF, it is a gradual process, but what is important is to create chances.
He went further to say the important thing is for them to score goals as his greatest joy as a coach will be for his team to score in games because that we take the pressure off them.
Olowookere disclosed his team will give the South Americans a good fight, matching them in the attack just like they did to the US as the Columbians are similar to the Germans and Americans.
