Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr has justified the inclusion of Remo Stars goalkeeper Serge Obassa in his squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Nigeria and Libya, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Obassa’s surprise selection in the 25-man squad raised eyebrows, but Rohr believes the goalkeeper’s familiarity with Nigerian football will prove valuable.
“Obassa knows Nigerian football very well, playing for Remo Stars, one of Nigeria’s top clubs,” Rohr explained.
“His experience and know-how can benefit us in training and potentially in matches.”
