NPFL UPDATE: KATSINA UNITED RETURN TO WINNING WAYS

Katsina United returned to winning ways after they defeated Nasarawa United by a lone goal at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina today.

They are now eighth on the NPFl table with six points from three matches.

?The two teams proved their mettle, but the hosts had more chances at goal as Tasiu Lawal and Joshua Agboola were constant tormentors of the back line of Nasarawa United led by Seun Sogbeso.

The goalkeeper of Katsina United Yinka David was on holidays in the first 30 minutes of play.

The first clear-cut chance for Nasarawa United rested upon Adamu Hasan as at 30 minutes of play when he received a pass from Thomos Zenke, but he directed his effort miles away from the goal.

Four minutes later the hosts were awarded a free kick which was swung in by Jainaidu Kadir from the right flank and attacked by Bidemi Abdulwahab but the striker was unable to keep his header down and Nasarawa United breathed a huge sigh of relief.

The hosts were the better team in the first 45 minutes of play? as the first half ended in a barren draw.

On resumption of second half, the away team surged forward with the goalkeeper of Katsina United Yinka David, who was on holidays in the first half, called to duty on four occasions with in the space of 10 minutes into the second half but his reflex and good timing of the ball were what the hosts needed to remain in contest.

Nasarawa United seemed to have settled for a draw, but the hosts showed great grit as they tried and succeeded in getting a goal for a much-needed three points.

The introduction of Suleman Musa for Ibrahim Suleman by coach Bala Nikyu paid up as the deadlock was broken by the substitute as at 80 minutes with Tasiu Lawal, who has been the most efficient player on the pitch, providing the assist.

Suleman Musa was adjudged the man of the match.

Immediately after the goal, the visitors came out from their shell in search of the equaliser as ageless Ado Ali of Katsina United did a yoman job in the defence of the hosts.
