Gombe United scored on either side of the half to extend the road miseries of FC IfeanyiUbah in one of the match day 11 fixtures decided at the Pantanmi Stadium in Gombe City to push down the Nnewi billionaire side to just a place above the bottom on the table.
Gombe moved two steps up from 13th to 1th and would next travel to Makurdi to face rebounding Lobi Stars on Match Day 12 this Sunday.
Austin Oladapo scored the first from a well taken free kick at the edge of the 18 yard box on the38 minute while former Rangers International forward, Samuel Agba nodded coolly on 71 minutes to protect their lead and secure victory.
Gombe United were clearly the better side and showed hunger for victory from kick-off seized the initiative with more offensive play, dominated the midfield and restricted their Nnewi-based opponents to their end of the pitch.
The pressure would yield a goal on the 38 minute after Kojo Ba infringed on Gombe United player at the edge of the box and which Oladapo converted.
Even with the lead, Gombe did not relent and pressed further, seeking to increase their lead. FC IfeanyiUbah hardly turned up in this half and failed to muster a single attempt at goal. Urged on by the home fans, Gombe United continued with their assault and it was the trio of Idris Bakare, Oladapo and Agba that were the tormentors in chief.
It was though a different FCIfeanyiUbah that emerged for the second half as they took the fight to their hosts but were lacking the cutting edge finish at the final third. This was not helped by what looked like an off day for their forwards.
Gombe United will recover the momentum to unleash their own assault on the visitors and the pressure would yield on 71 minutes when Agba connected a nod to Oladapo’s cross to double their lead and secure all three points.
