“?Former Huddersfield Town striker Daniel Carr has explained how a trial at Liverpool back in 2013 changed his life forever and described that period of his career as weird.

The 22-year-old is currently playing non-league football once again, after he was released by Huddersfield Town last summer. Carr returned to the club where he first began his career, Dulwich Hamlet, but has since gone out on loan to Leatherhead as he looks to secure regular playing time.

His current situation is a far cry from the events that took place nearly four years ago and having seen his hopes of the big time fall away over the last few years, the forward has revealed how his career took a dramatic twist when he was aged just 18.

Speaking to the “?Sun, Carr explained: “It was so weird. I got told to go up to Liverpool the next day and then my phone started blowing up.

“There were all these tweets and messages on my phone saying “?Dan this, Dan that, you’re going to Liverpool’. From then on my life’s not been the same.

“Charlton actually agreed a move for me before which broke down over money, then Chelsea and a few other few clubs were lurking – but I wanted to go to Liverpool.

“Brendan was the first-team manager at Reading when I was in the Under-16s and I remember he used to interact with youth players a lot. He likes to give youth a chance so I thought I’d go there for a trial.

“I was quite fortunate because the week I went to play against West Ham, a lot of the first team players weren’t getting game time so they played in the game with me.

“I was up front, playing the No.9 role. Suso was behind me, in the No.10. Raheem Sterling was out wide, Jonjo Shelvey in the middle and Conor Coady and Andre Wisdom were playing too.

“It was always the plan to play 60 minutes and I felt I done well. My runs were good and I just played the same as I’d done for Dulwich which got me in that situation. All in all, I thought it was a positive experience and I was pleased with it.”

Unfortunately for Carr, he was unable to impress the Liverpool coaches present during his trial and the club decided to wait until the summer where they paid out £7m to bring Iago Aspas to Anfield.
