Ahead of Tuesday’s meeting between executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the minister of Youth and Sports.
Barrister Solomon Dalung to chart a way forward for the senior national team, Super Eagles, stakeholders have urged that Coach Samson Siasia and his caretaker technical crew should retained to guarantee Nigeria’s qualification for the 218 World Cup.
Patrick Ekeji, former Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), said yesterday that retaining Siasia and his coaching crew will help to guarantee Nigeria a ticket to the next World Cup finals in Russia.
He said experience had shown that Siasia is capable of qualifying the country for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, going by the calibre of players he was able to assemble for the ill-fated AFCON qualifying matches against Egypt.
He warned that any decision by the NFF or the Ministry of Youths and Sports to bring a foreign coach would amount to a “wild goose chase’’ that could finally lead to another stage of lamentation, adding that Siasia has put together a solid team that will guarantee Nigeria a World Cup slot.
