NFF ELECTIONS: NFF Elective Congress Date still Uncertain

It is still not confirmed if The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Elective Congress slated to hold on Friday, 30th September, 2022 in Benin City, Edo State.

Although the 11 aspirants to replace outgoing NFF President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, on Tuesday evening met with the Honorable Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare in his office at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja, it is still uncertain if the elective congress will go on Friday.

The slated NFF Elective Congress in Benin City Edo State for the 30th of September was stopped by the Federal High Court Abuja in an ex-parte order pending the hearing of the case in October.

FCT FA Chairman, Mouktar Mohammed, who is also one of the contestants vying for the spot of NFF Presidency stated to journalists that they will respect the court order stopping the federation from holding the Elective Congress on Friday. He added that the process to vacate the court has started.

“It is a meeting of stakeholders with the Minister of Sports. The Minister is the leader of Sports in Nigeria and we oblige the meeting to have a dialogu regarding issues on ground.

“There are some decisions that we expect the Electoral Committee to look at that has to do with advise from security agencies. Of course, there is a court order, we all know. We are all law abiding citizens and so we will see to it. In the coming days, the court order can be vacated but as law abiding citizens we will follow what court said. It is an ongoing discussion. There is no conclusion yet. In the next few days we will hear more. We hope that at the end of the day, there would be a credible process acceptable to everyone for football to begin to flourish again”

NFF First Vice-president, Seyi Akinwunmi said that each contestant will continue to campaign ahead of the election despite the court order. Hoping that the election can still hold

“We just had discussion as to where we are heading to in Nigeria football. It was a succesful deliberation and there is nothing that makes anyone frown. Nothing controversial beyond the fact that we are all going back to continue our campaign ahead of the election.”

However, if the court order is vacated before Friday, the NFF Elective Congress will go on as scheduled.
