The Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, has said only the congress of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) can decide the fate of Amaju Pinnick as far as his much talked about third term agenda is concerned.
Dare who made this known yesterday during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja further stated that he is not against Pinnick’s agenda if there is any but maintained that the decision of the NFF Congress is supreme.
It would be recalled that following the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, there was tremendous pressure on Pinnick to resign.
In the heat that came upon him, the former chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission then announced that he was not running for a third term.
However, some members of the NFF Congress who have accused the president of engaging in clandestine moves in pursuit of his third term agenda are mounting pressure on him to leave at the end of his second tenure.
In his reaction, Dare said only the congressmen will decide whether or not Pinnick gets a third term.
“I am not against Pinnick’s ambition. Though he has never told me that he is contesting, I have listened to an interview where he said he is not contesting, so on the basis of that I am saying the right thing should be done,” he said.
He maintained that the crisis within the federation which has built up over the years had necessitated President Muhammadu Buhari’s insistence that an election should be held on or before September with major stakeholders being carried along to forestall any recurrence of what we had in the past.
“We have done our part as a government institution. It is now left for the NFF congress to decide their fate” he concluded.
