Nigeria’s Warri Wolves and Nasarawa United both crashed out of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, respectively, on Saturday.
Wolves fell 1-0 to hosts Al Merreikh of Sudan to be sent packing of this year’s CAF Champions League on a 2-0 aggregate after they also lost their first leg in Warri 1-0.
Al Merreikh winner on Saturday was five minutes from time when Bakri Almadina tucked away a penalty.
Nasarawa United fell 4-1 at CS Constantine of Algeria to fall out of the Confederation Cup 4-2 on aggregate after they won 1-0 at home a week ago.
The Algerians took the lead on the stroke of half time from the penalty spot courtesy of Yassine Bezzaz, before Nigeria ‘B’ international Bature Yaro drew the Lafia club level in the 67th minute.
But thereafter, the Algerians turned on the heat to score three goals through Ahmed Messadia, Mourad Meghni and Paulin Voavy and book their place in the second round of the competition.
Enyimba are now the only Nigerian club still in the reckoning in continental football this year.
