“?As well as aiming to lead Slovakia out of Group B, out-of-favour Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel will be aiming to put himself in the shop window during the ongoing European Championships.
Having started just four Liverpool matches in 2016, Skrtel is likely to be seeking a move away from Anfield this summer.
As per the “?Express, Mithat Halis, a football agent who works for “Stars&Friends”, the company that represents Skrtel, has claimed in a radio interview with Turkish station Radyospor that Wolfsburg head the list of three clubs interested in the Slovakian centre-back.
“There are three clubs that want Martin, Fenerbahce have been interested for four years, but there are also offers from China and Wolfsburg also want him.”
Dieter Hecking’s Wolfsburg side, who dumped Manchester United out of the Champions League last season, before suffering a narrow quarter-final defeat at the hands of eventual winners Real Madrid, are sure to be the most tempting proposition available to the Slovakian.
Despite having sold 2014/15 Bundesliga Player of the Season Kevin de Bruyne to Manchester City, Wolfsburg’s Champions League form was eye-catching and a first ever DFL-Supercup was secured by beating Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich side on penalties.
An eighth place league finish, down from second the previous season, belied a lack of consistency and squad depth, which is something Hecking is clearly looking to remedy with his pursuit of the experienced Skrtel, especially in light of Swiss central defender Timm Klose’s January switch to Norwich City.
A move to the Bundesliga outfit would see 31-year-old Skrtel given the chance to line up alongside a multitude of stars who currently join him in France to represent their country at Euro 2016.
Julian Draxler, Andre Schurrle, Vieirinha and Ricardo Rodriguez have been included in the Germany, Portugal and Switzerland squads respectively, all battling it out for glory in France.
