“?Real Madrid attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard has opened up on his move to the Bernabeu, as well as his level of contentment at the club despite making just two senior appearances in two years.
Now 18, Odegaard joined Real Madrid from Stromsgodset as a 16-year-old in 2015. He was described as the best young player in Europe at the time, and had trained with several clubs – including the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Bayern Munich – before deciding to sign for Los Blancos.
The Norwegian was mostly used in Madrid’s Castilla reserve side, bar his two first-team appearances, and is now on loan at Dutch side SC Heerenveen, having made the 18-month loan move this month.
Many feel that he may no longer get his chance at Madrid, but the player insists that he will, also revealing that playing for Castilla was always the plan.
“People forget that I signed for Real Madrid to play in Castilla and continue my development,”? he told “?Bild.
“I played a lot and now I’m in the Dutch first division, so it’s a step forward in my career.
Martin Odegaard: “My time at Real Madrid is not yet over. I want to gain experience here to return to begin summer with them in 2018.”
“My time at Real Madrid is not over. I want to gain first-level experience at Heerenveen and then start again in the summer of 2017 at Madrid.”?
Odegaard then went on to explain the factor which influenced him to choose Madrid ahead of Bayern.
“I have nothing against Bayern,”? he insisted. I was in Munich with my father and found that they had amazing facilities and they worked very hard. But in the end, my father and I decided that Real Madrid was going to be a more favourable club for my development.”?
