“?Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze has admitted that leaving the club for Bayern Munich in 2013 wasn’t the right thing to do. It comes as he prepares to face his former team back in a Dortmund shirt in the DFL Supercup this weekend.

“With the experience I have now, I would make the decision [to leave Dortmund] at a later stage, but I wanted to take the risk at the time and make the next step,” Gotze is quoted as saying by Goal.com as he addressed the media this week.

“Looking back at it, I would have made a different decision now,” he added.

It was a sentiment that the 2014 World Cup winner had already expressed when he first made the move back to his boyhood club earlier this summer, having spent three years struggling to impose himself in Bavaria.

Bayern were ultimately forced to settle for a loss of around €14m on their initial €37m outlay, and Gotze is now firmly focused on making a success of himself back in yellow and black.

“I am ready and want to play as soon as possible,” he said looking ahead to the weekend.

“Sunday is an important game that we really want to win. I hope the sporting aspect will take the main stage, even though it is obviously a special game for me.”

Dortmund have been very busy this summer and Gotze forms just one part of the summer spending as the club looks to wrestle the Bundesliga title back from Bayern for the first time since 2012.
