“?Jesse Lingard is ready to commit his future to Manchester United by signing a new four-year deal with the club.
“?The Sun claimed that the 24-year-old is set to rake in a reported £95,000-a-week after he put pen-to-paper on fresh terms at Old Trafford. Lingard is now due to remain in Manchester until June 2021 as a result, and the offer includes the option of a further year if the England international chooses to further extend his stay.
The signing of the deal bring to an end almost four months’ worth of contract stand-offs between the club and Lingard’s representatives, and indicates just how highly Lingard is rated among United’s coaching staff after he saw his wages more than triple from his previous £30,000-a-week salary.
Lingard had 18 months remaining on his former contract at United, but the Red Devils were eager to tie him down for longer so they would not worry about potentially losing him for pittance in the next 12 months.
Talks over a new deal for the United youth academy product began way back in September but, despite both parties agreeing that Lingard would like to remain at the club, a deal could not be thrashed out until now. Back then a source from within the club had suggested that Lingard would sign a new contract “?around October time, before the stand-off in negotiations took place in the intervening weeks.
The source said: “There has been talks between the club and Jese’s representatives for a few weeks now. There has been no issues and the club lawyers are just in the process of completing all the paperwork.”?
As if Jesse Lingard is going to be getting nearly 100 grand a week to sit on the bench and follow Pogba around the training ground
Lingard has remained a regular first-team player under new United manager Jose Mourinho this season, and the Sun claims that the Portuguese boss has been left suitably impressed by the England international’s performances both in training and on match days.
With 18 appearances and three goals to his name this term, the Warrington-born player has been handed plenty of opportunities to impress, and he hasn’t disappointed as United finally begin to make a push for a Champions League qualification spot after a run of superb form in the Premier League.
Mourinho’s men have overcome early season jitters to embark on a run that has seen them reel in the five clubs above them, and now the 20-time English top flight champions sit just two places and three points behind fourth-placed Manchester City as the battle for a place in UEFA’s flagship continental competition hots up.
