“?Liverpool and Manchester United have both been fined by UEFA after a verdict was reached following several charges relating to various incidents that took place when the two rivals met over two legs in the Europa League last 16 in March.

UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body dealt with the two teams jointly after charges were made as a result of the clash at Anfield on Thursday 10th March and Old Trafford a week later.

Liverpool were hit with charges of illicit chanting from fans, as well as the setting off of fireworks, the throwing of objects, crowd disturbances and a late kick-off.

The illicit chanting brought a fine of €40,000, half of which is to remain suspended for two years. The other charges resulted in additional total fines of €17,000 for the Reds and an obligation to contact Manchester United within 30 days ‘for the settlement of the damages caused by its supporters’.

United were also charged as a result of illicit chanting and issued the same €40,000 fine, half suspended until 2018. Other charges of blocked stairways, crowd disturbances and the throwing of objects resulted in further fines of €18,000.

Liverpool are also still under investigation from UEFA regarding crowd disturbances and the use of fireworks in the build up to the Europa League final against Sevilla in Basel last week. That case is scheduled to be dealt with by UEFA’s CEDB on 21st July.
