Schlupp has been excluded from Ghana’s squad

Leicester City’s Ghana international midfielder Jeff Schlupp will miss the Africa Cup of Nations because of a knee injury.

Schlupp has not been named in Ghana’s final 23-man squad for the competition that begins on January 27.

The 22-year-old picked up the injury towards the end of City’s 2-2 draw at Liverpool on New Year’s Day.

In a statement on the Ghana FA’s official website, it confirmed coach Avram Grant had left Schlupp out because of the injury which will see him miss up to three weeks.

The 22-year-old was due to fly out to a training camp as part of the provisional 31-man squad on Monday but City boss Nigel Pearson said the club would assess him first before letting him leave.

It is yet another disappointment for Schlupp, who looked set for selection after his recent run of excellent form, after he missed out on selection to the final 23-man squad for the World Cup in the summer.

Fellow City midfielder Riyad Mahrez will be taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria.
