Everton forward Alex Iwobi will undergo a scan to examine the extent of the injury he sustained in Everton’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester United in their Emirates FA Cup clash on Friday night.
Manchester United left-back, Tyrell Malacia raced back and committed a sliding challenge, which was deemed legal by the referee, to stop the counter-attack by the Toffees.
However, it left Iwobi worse off, as he was unable to carry on or even walk off. The 26-year-old looked visibly distressed whilst being transferred onto the stretcher.
The sight of the incident looks like what could sideline the former Arsenal midfielder for a longtime but Lampard will hope for otherwise.
“We hope it’s not too serious. It looks like an ankle ligament injury.
He will have a scan tomorrow (today) to confirm,” said the former Chelsea coach.
After being attended to on the field, Iwobi was replaced by Abdoulaye Doucoure in the 49th minute, and he received a standing ovation from the traveling Evertonian fans.
