Nigerian teenager Kelechi Nwakali is on the verge of joining Arsenal, and has posted photos of himself holding up a Gunners shirt with his name on it.

Nwakali’s transfer has been in the works since January, when he visited Wenger at the Emirates Stadium. Sources told ESPN FC in March that Nwakali, who helped his country win the Under-17 World Cup last year, had signed a precontract on a five-year deal.

He only became eligible for a formal transfer after turning 18 this month because of FIFA regulations on signing minors from other countries.

A club source told ESPN FC that Arsenal still aren’t able to officially announce the deal themselves yet as the international transfer window doesn’t formally open until July 1 — even though they have already confirmed the signing for Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach.

“New life begins at Arsenal” Nwakali wrote on his Facebook page, where he also posted pictures of himself next to defender Laurent Koscielny and manager Arsene Wenger.
