“?Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted at the possibility of summer signing Loris Karius replacing Simon Mignolet as first choice goalkeeper.

The 23-year old former Mainz stopper made his competitive debut for the club in Tuesday night’s EFL Cup victory at Derby County, although it was a game that Klopp felt didn’t allow his new signing to show what he could do.

Karius had been out with a broken arm, denying him the opportunity to start the season in goal for the Merseyside club. But he is expected to start ahead of Simon Mignolet for Saturday’s game at Anfield, finally giving some competition to the Belgian.

“Let’s go through a few different kinds of ways in which we could see it,”? Klopp said during his pre-match press conference on Thursday, as reported by the “?Independent.

“Do we say, ‘Okay, Loris had the game against Derby. Was it a real game for a keeper? Not really. So give him a home game’ for example.

“We could say, ‘there is an international break coming up, so give Loris a home game and Swansea away’ and then both have had the chance to show what they are.

“It’s not in doubt, it’s not a test.

“I accept again the circumstances over the keeper’s position. But in the end it’s 100% positive “? Liverpool FC will have a very strong goalkeeper on Saturday between the posts.”?

Despite a relatively quiet and steady start to the season by Mignolet’s standards, Liverpool fans are often divided on the keeper’s credentials.

The numerous mistakes he has made in previous seasons have often led to fans calling for a replacement but it is yet to be seen whether Karius will be the man Liverpool need to eradicate the conceding of sloppy goals.
