Godwin Izilein, former Super Falcons chief coach has enjoin Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to honour coaches that have served the nation creditably while they are alive rather than in death.
Izilein said this on Thursday while dwelling on the burial of late Super Eagles coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, adding that the posthumous honour on the coach by the NFF was a fake.
According to him, “I challenge the NFF to honour Nigerian coaches who have done the nation proud when they are alive not when they are dead,” he said.
“NFF never valued Keshi when he was alive; they failed to pay his salaries; they did not even appreciate the glories he brought to the nation; he was despised.”
He added, “It was same thing they did to Shaibu Amodu who died few days after Keshi. Both of them were great coaches, but were not honoured when they were alive, it’s not fair.”
On the Togo delegation that paid their last respect to Keshi, Izilein said that it was a welcome development which Nigeria should emulate.
“Togo has done what Nigeria failed to do for their own citizen by paying their last respect to Keshi. It goes to show that they value so much what he (Keshi) did for them and Nigeria must learn from that.”
Togo delegation was led by their FA President, Guy Akpovi; it was in respect of Keshi qualifying Togo for their first ever World Cup.
Izilein, who is the Technical Director of Edo State football academy prayed, “May God grant Keshi a peaceful and eternal rest.”
He concluded that Nigerian coaches should not relent in doing their best in doing their job.
