I strongly believe of late that FC IfeanyiUbah are winning matches by any means necessary with the additional help of the referees.
We all know that referees are human beings and as such make mistakes, but then, there are some calls they make that even a blind man knows that it is out of wickedness and their own selfish motives.
I reckon our league will only grow at a snail pace with such unethical match officials.
I watched the match between FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Pillars and the officiating was below par. The referee was never in control of the game because he got so many calls wrong. The game was still 1-1 when the kill-joy referee awarded the hosts an imaginary penalty late on.
This decision never went down well with the many spectators at the stadium. Pillars protest fell on deaf ears as the so-called referee had already pointed to the spot.
An FC IfeanyiUbah player stepped up and crashed the ball against the post just for the shameless referee for reasons best known to him to point to the spot again that the penalty had to be replayed. He claimed goalkeeper David Obiozor stepped away from the line which was never true.
It is either this particular referee was influenced to take such nasty decisions or he never went for any course pertaining officiating.
Why must the issue of bad officiating come up each time some particular clubs play a match?
If not for heavy security in Ilorin, the referee who handled the Federation Cup tie between IfeanyiUbah and Katsina United would have been lynched on account of biased officiating.
Again, in reference to the match between the so-called ambitious IfeanyiUbah and Warri Wolves we saw how another kill-joy referee disallowed a goal scored by Wolves.
Some clubs want to be at the continent at all cost and that explains why they can go to any length to win matches forgetting that “karma” has its way of collecting its own pound of flesh because you may eventually not qualify to play in the continent despite the heavy spending or better still qualify and then be paired against a North African club who will teach you some lessons on and off the pitch.
You have assembled all the best players in the league (forgetting that modern football isn’t all about money) yet results are not forth coming, why not in humility ask Imama Kwaku Amapakabo or better still Abdu Maikaba what is it they do to get it right because it is crystal clear that some clubs despite their big budgets don’t have a sound technical crew and that explains why they are not getting the results and as such they resort to other means.
