The Hull City hierarchy have expressed their desire to have a takeover completed, before the January transfer window opens, according to “?Sky Sports.

The Premier League side have been up for sale since 2014, when chairman Assem Allam controversially attempted to change the official name to Hull Tigers in a proposal that was rejected by the FA and condemned by fans.

The KCOM outfit have yet to find a buyer but hope to complete a takeover before the start of the winter transfer window, with four parties supposedly interested in purchasing the club. A deal so far, however, remains incomplete.

Hull currently sit 18th in the Premier League table, after a recent run of six straight defeats was interrupted by a 2-1 win over Southampton, just before the international break.

The result handed Mike Phelan his first win as official manager, after a prolonged spell as interim boss, and placed The Tigers just one point behind West Ham.

A club spokesman said: “The process of due diligence is ongoing but it is unclear whether this will be completed before or after the transfer window. If the takeover of the club can’t be done before the window then talks will be suspended.”

Phelan’s side will have their fingers crossed a takeover can indeed be completed in time for the January window, and the former Manchester United assistant has previously expressed a desire to add some quality to his ailing team’s ranks, amid a string of high profile injury concerns.

With 10 points from 11 games, it has been a case of what could have been for Hull, who flew out of the traps with impressive wins against the champions Leicester City and then Swansea in August.

However, the six game losing streak brought about notable defensive concerns, as Phelan’s side conceded 15 goals in three games against Arsenal, Liverpool and Bournemouth.

The promise of a cash injection for the transfer window would be just what the doctor ordered for the Premier League’s leakiest defence.
