“He’s 36 and injury prone” – a likely summer exit for Leon Balogun on the cards

Leon Balogun

Derek Ferguson has lashed out at Leon Balogun in the wake of his not-so-convincing performances for Rangers in recent weeks, the 36-year-old who recently made an injury return and has started three games in a role under Barry Ferguson is facing a backlash as they keep up their European ambition, Nigeriasoccernet.com writes.

The older brother of Barry Ferguson, Derek believes that the Scottish club should let the Nigerian veteran leave in the summer and bring in a younger player who can consistently give his best.

“I think he’ll be off. He’s done terrifically well since coming back in, but he’s 36 and injury-prone,” Ferguson said to Ibrox News.

“He’s a good player but is he someone Rangers should be looking to tie down? No. He’s done well across two spells, but no, it’s time for Leon to look elsewhere”.

There re reports that the club is considering an extension by a further year but nothing concrete has surfaced yet, Balogun’s future remains uncertain as his contract will end at the end of the current campaign.
