Atlanta 1996 Olympics gold medalist, Mobi Oparaku has been appointed the Team Manager of Heartland FC, a Nigeria Professional Football League side.
Oparaku (marked by an arrow in the picture above showing Heartland new management team), starts his first journey into football management after an illustrious playing career.
The former Super Eagles’ defender’s appointment marks the highpoint of changes at the Owerri side in their effort to avoid relegation.
Oparaku’s appoint was announced Saturday by new chairman of the club, Hon. Goodfaith Chibuzor Etuemena who was unveiled same day after his appointment by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State.
Also to serve in the management Committee of the club are Promise Nwachukwu who has been appointed as Sporting Director,
Emmanuel Uzoma Emelu as Welfare Officer, Ramson Madu as Head Coach and Cajen Nkwopara who makes a return to the club as Director of Media.
Chairman of the club, Hon. Goodfaith Chibuzo Etuemena Saturday pleaded for support from supporters of the club, and all stakeholders, to help save the side from imminent relegation from the NPFL.
Etuemena was unveiled Saturday in Owerri at the VIP Lounge of Dan Anyiam Stadium amidst excitement from fans and supporters of the club who thronged the arena to witness the event and to see the face of the club’s new ‘Messiah’ in the race against the dreaded drop to the second tier league, Nigeria National League.
The new Heartland chairman said the task at hand was enormous given the fact that Heartland FC are already technically relegated and would only require God’s miracle to survive.
“I am not a magician, but I’m an optimist and I believe that there is nothing that God cannot do. I discovered that a lot of things went wrong with the last management (team) and we will try our best to correct them,” Etuemena,said in a statement made available to nigeriasoccernet.com
“I want to seize this opportunity to call on everybody, our supporters, the entire Nigerian football stakeholders and all those who might have felt offended in one way or the other to please accept our hands of friendship and help us save this club for the sake of posterity.”
