He wants me to Model my Game off Kovacic- Iwobi

How Good Has Alex Iwobi Been For Everton This Season? A Statistical Analysis - Royal Blue Mersey

Nigeria International and Everton midfielder, Alexander Chuka Iwobi, is having an outstanding season for Frank Lampard’s charges this term and has become a fan favorite with the supporters that occupy most of Goodison Park on Matchday.

In an interview with BT Sports the 26-year old reveals that manager, Frank Lampard, has been pivotal to his progress and that the Chelsea Legend compared him to Chelsea’s Croatian Midfielder, Mateo Kovacic during training and encouraged him to model his game around that of the former Real Madrid player.

“He saw me in training and said I had the attributes of Kovacic (Matteo) whom he worked with at Chelsea. How he would move the ball and pick out passes from different channels,” Iwobi told BT’s Big Football Interview.

Kovacic is not Iwobi’s only motivation as the Nigerian also disclosed that playing as an 8 is one of his preferred position.

Although Iwobi is well known for his versatility as he has played different positions throughout his career, he revealed that playing as a number 8 gives him the freedom to act as a box-to-box midfielder and pop in up with crucial goal contributions more like Frank Lampard during his playing days.

“It’s also one of my best positions because I can play box-to-box and get the chance to score goals, much like what Frank did.”

The former Arsenal man already equalled his tally of four-goal contributions in 10 games this season which took him 28 league games to achieve last season.
