“He should be sacked” – Ex-Super Eagles star urges Chelsea to fire embattled Graham Potter

Former Super Eagles striker, Victor Ikpeba on Monday evening advocated for the sacking of embattled Chelsea manager, Graham Potter following the poor run of form by the west London side.

Potter’s team were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening with the calls for the sack of the former Brighton manager intensified.

Ikpeba on Monday Night Football broadcast by SuperSport insists that the manager should not have been handed the tough task of steering the Blues.

Speaking on the huge payout that owner Todd Boehly would be meant to part with should he fire Potter,, Ikpeba said:

“I think Potter should be sacked. It’s not written on paper that managers on long term contracts cannot be sacked.

“There is no sympathy on managers when the results are not there. Sometimes, the results have nothing to do with them playing badly but for you not to score goals – I think just three goals in 10 matches – its not right. He should be sacked,” Ikpeba insisted.

Chelsea scored only one goal in the month of February through Joao Felix who is on loan from Atletico Madrid.

“We have seen managers with long-term contracts sacked and they move on.

Ikpeba, who played for some of Europe’s top clubs like AS Monaco and Borussia Dortmund, does not think that whoever replaces Potter will struggle to improve the fortunes of the club.

“I do feel that we have to question how Potter sets up his team. They have a lot of quality in this Chelsea side.

“You can bring a new manager, he brings a new philosophy and results start to come through but I feel it’s an unfortunate situation, the results have not been brilliant and the fans cannot be patient with this manager,” Ikpeba noted.

The 1997 African Footballer of The Year winner also wondered why the coach always changed his lineups.
