Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink is predicting a return to the club for Frank Lampard”?, who he feels may flourish in a coaching role after he retires, he told “?Get West London.
Lampard is currently playing for New York City in the MLS, although he has not enjoyed the smoothest of times in the United States due to a succession of injuries blighting his progress, fuelling rumours that he may soon call it a day.
“?Lampard is the highest scoring player in the history of Chelsea Football Club, and won 13 trophies in the same amount of years he spent there as a player, and is widely considered to be the greatest player to ever wear the blue shirt.
He would therefore be welcomed back with open arms, and Hiddink said he can see it happening as he is part of the Chelsea ‘family’.
“I can see that. He was recently here when he was having his injury. He modestly asked if he could be treated here by our physios. I said of course as he was asking me.”
Hiddink reflected on a discussion with Lampard where the ex-player offered to come in when the players had finished training to ease pressure on the coaching staff. However, the Dutchman insisted he partake in the regular schedule as he has earned the privilege and can inspire young players by being around the training ground.
“I said “?no, you are one of this family’ and he loved to come in the day. If those players don’t have that affection to the club then the don’t even come back for the treatment.
“Young players can learn a lot, not every day of course, but they can accelerate their career by having eyes on the career of those big guys.”?
