Gonzalo Higuain Could Skip Napoli Training Camp as Transfer Speculation Continues

Gonzalo Higuain could miss Napoli’s pre-season training camp in an attempt to force a move out of Napoli, according to Calciomercato via Football-Italia.

The Argentina striker has been subject of heavy interest from Napoli’s rivals Juventus, however, president Aurelio De Laurentiis has made it clear that the Serie A champions will have to pay Higuain’s full €94m release clause if they want their star man.

Juventus’ interest has since cooled after De Laurentiis reiterated the club would not sell for anything less than €94m, and now Higuain could be about to take things into his own hands.

Calciomercato report that Higuain is not on strike, but he is not keen on turning up to Napoli’s training camp.

However, Calciomercato have also refused to rule out the possibility of Higuain doing a complete U-turn and renewing his contract.

Last year, the 28-year-old and De Laurentiis had a meeting to discuss a potential contract renewal and Calciomercato believe the same could happen again should Higuain remain in Naples.

Arsenal have also been linked with the Argentina international and, while Juventus may have baulked at Napoli’s asking price, De Laurentiis thinks a departure is still possible for Higuain and has hinted Arsenal as a possible destination.

Napoli’s president was quoted on Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Sport Witness) saying he would have to pay over the odds for a replacement if “Higuain would go away, you know, to Arsenal, or to some other club.”?

But it is unlikely that Arsene Wenger will meet Higuain’s release clause and recent rumours have suggested that the north London club are chasing Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi rather than Napoli’s hitman.
