Gombe FA Boss faults involvement of Sport Minister in NFF elections

Gombe State Football Association has questioned the involvement of the Sport Ministry led By Mr. Sunday Dare in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) elections.

The September 30 election has been riddled with uncertainties after letter from a group threatening to disrupt it if they are not involved in it.

A group of former footballers had also taken the NFF to court seeking the cancellation of the election which was granted even though the NFF insisted otherwise.

Besides, the LMC ban and seal off of the LMC house by the government have not covered the minister in good light and accusing fingers have been pointed at him.

The recent news that surfaced of the calling of the elections and the sport minister’s letter inviting the eleven presidential aspirants to a meeting on Tuesday further fuels the suspicion of the ministry’s involvement.

Gombe State Football Association, Yakubu Sarma has questioned the invite of the aspirants by the minister according to Pikin of God News.

“Why will the Minister invite only the presidential aspirants to a meeting without the other candidates through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry? We must note that every contestant in this election has paid their dues and deserves to be in whatever parley the Honourable Minister wants to have with contestants”, he added.

“We have it in good authority that the Minister through his allies had meetings in the past weeks with the same group that will not stop at anything but continuously want to stop football business and bring our football to disrepute.” He said.

“I wonder why is it that we hardly learn from our past experiences and even from recent happening around the world. India is an example and we must understand the fact that once the process of election is started, there wouldn’t be any normalization committee, FIFA will only approve for the present board to stay in office until the process is completed.” He added.
